Jamaicanos rechazan el aumento del transporte público

In response to the Jamaica Observer question “Is the Government’s 25% increase in transportation fares justified?” 68 per cent of respondents said no.

On Monday, August 19, Minister of Transport, Work and Housing, Dr Omar Davies announced a 25 per cent increase in fares for the public transport sector.

The new fares became effective yesterday, August 25.

Fares for commuters using the Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) have increased from $80 to $100.

Students, the elderly and disabled will continue to pay $20.

The 25 per cent increase also applies to route taxis and rural stage carriers
