Barbados: Gobierno implementa créditos especiales para jubilados

Credit card services for BARP

Members of the Barbados Association of Retired Persons (BARP) will have access to a special credit card service from next month.

“We are announcing the launch of the credit card today,” said Managing Director of Globe Finance Ronald Davis in a presentation to yesterday’s annual general meeting of BARP.

“We are still doing testing to make sure that when you get a card, and you use it, it’s gonna work the way you want it to work . . . so we will be launching the card officially on August the 15th,” he added.

Yesterday, the retired persons’ grouping, which boasts of $4.364 million in funds as of financial year ended March 31, 2014, also held internal elections for five positions.

Former Deputy Prime Minister Dame Billie Miller was returned to the position of vice president, defeating former diplomat Frank Da Silva with 191 votes to his 73 votes at the organisation’s 20th annual general meeting at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre.

Three of the nine positions for BARP directorship were also open for election, with Senator Tony Marshall, former general manager of the Barbados Stock Exchange Virginia Mapp, and former chairman of the National Housing Corporation Desmond Crichlow, who is a returning director, filling the positions.

Attorney-at-law Sandra Osbourne was also returned unopposed as secretary.
