Conferencia de Caricom inicia el 26 de febrero en Haití
Representantes del Gobierno de Haití informaron este miércoles que todo se encuentra listo para iniciar la 29 sesión de la Conferencia de Jefes de Estado y de Gobierno de la Comunidad del Caribe (Caricom).
El ministro de Relaciones Exteriores de Haití, Antonio Rodrigue, sostuvo una reunión con el embajador de (Caricom), Peterson Benjamin Noël; y el Embajador de Haití en Canadá, Frantz Liautaud, con el fin de afinar detalles para la 29 sesión de la Conferencia.
“Haití es el país anfitrión de la 29 ª sesión de la Conferencia de jefes de Estado y de Gobierno de @CARICOM 26 y 27 de febrero, 2018 bajo la Presidencia para reemplazar al primer ministro de Granada, el Dr. Keith Mitchell desde el 1 de enero de 2018”.

El encuentro está planificado para el 26 y 27 de febrero en Puerto Príncipe y con la presencia de 17 representantes de varios países, entre ellos, confirmaron 14 países que integran la delegación de miembros de la Comunidad del Caribe y tres miembros asociados como son las Islas Caimán, Montserrat, las Islas Turcas y Caicos.
En esta 29 sesión se tocarán temas de interés como gestión de riesgos y desastres, el cambio climático, libre circulación en el Caribe, entre otros puntos.
Rodrigue dejó claro que el Gobierno ejecutará planes de seguridad para reforzar la policía del país con el fin de que la circulación de los jefes de estados y delegaciones extrajeras no tengan ningún tipo de inconvenientes al momento de movilizarse dentro del país.
Barbados Prime Minister to attend CARICOM Summit in Haiti
Prime Minister Freundel Stuart will leave Barbados on Saturday, February 24, for the Twenty-Ninth Inter-Sessional Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. The summit takes place from February 26 to 27, at the Marriott Hotel.
Following the Adoption of the Agenda and dealing with a number of Procedural Matters, Mr. Stuart and other regional leaders will examine the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME), particularly Administrative Requirements in the Skills Certification Process as it relates to the Requirement for a Police Certificate of Character.
They will also look at Procedures to which Member States would adhere on the Refusal of Entry of CARICOM Nationals; and Foreign Exchange Difficulties Affecting Trade between Member States.
Against the backdrop of last year’s devastating hurricane season, significant attention will be placed on finding solutions to Disaster Management and Recovery.
SG commends Saint Lucia’s leadership in sustainable development
Secretary-General, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque has commended Saint Lucia for ensuring that issues related to sustainable development are placed at the forefront of the regional and international agenda.
In a congratulatory message to the Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, The Honourable Allen Chastanet, on the occasion of the country’s Thirty-Ninth Anniversary of Independence on Thursday 22 February, Mr LaRocque said:
“Saint Lucia’s efforts at promoting regional integration are most appreciated. With responsibility for Sustainable Development, the Environment and Disaster Management in the Quasi-cabinet of CARICOM, Saint Lucia is exercising great leadership in ensuring that these issues of vital importance to the Region remain in the forefront of the regional and international agenda.”
He told the Saint Lucian Prime Minister that he was looking forward to partnering with the Government and People of Saint Lucia as they continued their progress towards a viable, sustainable and prosperous country, which would serve to strengthen the wider Caribbean Community.
Secretary-General LaRocque said that the theme of this year’s celebration, I am Saint Lucia, conveys the sentiment of pride that inspires the continued commitment of the Government and People of Saint Lucia in their pursuit towards the development.

“Honourable Prime Minister:
It is my distinct pleasure on behalf of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), to extend warmest congratulations to you and the People of Saint Lucia on the occasion of your country’s Thirty-Ninth Anniversary of Independence.
Saint Lucia has made remarkable progress in those 39 years and is justified in celebrating its achievements with pride. The theme of this Anniversary “I am Saint Lucia” conveys the sentiment of pride that inspires the continued commitment of the Government and People of Saint Lucia in their pursuit towards the development of their country.
Honourable Prime Minister, Saint Lucia’s efforts at promoting regional integration are most appreciated.
